Grounding is a practice that helps you connect to the present moment and your inner self. It’s especially helpful when life feels chaotic or overwhelming. Here’s a guide to incorporating daily grounding rituals into your routine.

What is Grounding?

Grounding is the process of reconnecting with the earth, your body, and your inner balance. It helps reduce anxiety, improve focus, and enhance your spiritual practice. The following rituals are simple and adaptable, making them perfect for any lifestyle.

Morning Grounding Rituals

  1. Set Intentions with Breathwork
Begin your day by sitting quietly and taking 5-10 deep breaths. With each inhale, visualize light entering your body. With each exhale, release tension and stress. Silently set an intention for the day (e.g., “Today, I will stay calm and focused”).
  2. Connect with Nature
If possible, step outside barefoot and feel the earth beneath you. This practice, often called “earthing,” can calm the mind and reconnect you to natural energy. If you’re indoors, place your hands on a houseplant or imagine roots growing from your feet into the earth.
  3. Daily Affirmations
Speak affirmations to align your energy with your goals. Examples:
    • “I am grounded and safe.”
    • “I welcome peace and clarity into my life.”
  4. Grounding Tea Ritual
Mindfully prepare a cup of herbal tea (such as chamomile or peppermint). As you stir, focus on infusing the tea with intentions for calm and grounding. Sip slowly, savoring the moment.

Midday Grounding Practices

  1. Mindful Walking
Take a short walk during your lunch break. Pay attention to the sensations in your feet as they touch the ground, the sounds around you, and the rhythm of your breath.
  2. Body Scan Meditation
Spend 3-5 minutes scanning your body from head to toe. Notice areas of tension, and consciously release it. This can be done at your desk or in a quiet space.
  3. Crystal Grounding
Carry grounding crystals like black tourmaline, hematite, or smoky quartz. When you feel overwhelmed, hold the crystal and visualize its energy stabilizing you.
  4. Pause for Gratitude
Write down three things you’re grateful for or simply think of them. Gratitude shifts your focus to the positive and recenters your energy.

Evening Grounding Rituals

  1. Salt Bath or Foot Soak
Dissolve Epsom or sea salt in warm water and soak your body or feet. Salt is known for its cleansing and grounding properties, helping to release negative energy.
  2. Journaling for Reflection
Before bed, journal about your day. Write down what went well, what you learned, and anything you want to release. Reflecting helps process emotions and clears mental clutter.
  3. Light a Candle
Sit quietly and light a candle, focusing on the flame. Imagine its warmth grounding your energy. Use a scent like sandalwood or patchouli for extra grounding energy.
  4. Visualization Practice
Picture yourself as a tree with roots extending deep into the earth. Feel stable and connected as you imagine absorbing grounding energy from the earth.

Rituals for Any Time of Day

  1. Hold a Grounding Object
Keep a small object, like a worry stone or piece of wood, in your pocket. When you feel unsteady, hold it and focus on its texture and weight.
  2. Music and Movement
Play calming music and move intuitively. Dancing or stretching connects you to your body and releases pent-up energy.
  3. Focus on the Senses
Use the 5-4-3-2-1 technique to ground yourself:
  • 5 things you can see
  • 4 things you can touch
  • 3 things you can hear
  • 2 things you can smell
  • 1 thing you can taste

Tips for Success

  • Be Consistent: Choose a few rituals that resonate and practice them daily.
  • Personalize Your Rituals: Adapt these ideas to fit your spiritual path and preferences.
  • Stay Present: Focus fully on each practice to maximize its grounding effect.

By weaving these grounding rituals into your daily life, you can cultivate a sense of balance and peace no matter what challenges arise. Start with just one or two practices, and let them grow into a grounding routine that nourishes your body, mind, and spirit.

When I first started my spiritual practices I thought once I made something a part of my daily ritual it must always be a part of my ritual or else I was taking the easy way out and wasn’t being disciplined enough to make a difference in my healing journey. I’d make sure that in the morning I’d pull a card, do reiki, connect with my guides, and journal about what came up. And while that practice suited me for a time, it was not sustainable and not only that…it wasn’t something that I felt pulled to.

But flash forward to 6 years later and I’ve found that a true ‘daily ritual’ normally doesn’t work for me. Not only does it feel to rigid and ‘religion-y’ to me, it just does not work with what comes naturally to me. I’ve learned that what does work for me is ‘seasonal rituals and practices’ – meaning, I change up my practices and focuses with the seasons. And maybe even more lately, around the season of the wheel of the year we’re currently in.

Giving myself permission to let go of disciplined and rigid rituals has opened my practice up for more flow, ease, and it’s something that always feels fresh because it’s always changing with what’s going on around me.

So in this post I just want to remind you, it’s ok to switch up your practices IT’S ALSO OK TO PAUSE A PRACTICE.

If you’re looking for a way to tap into the energy of the season and craft your rituals around the natural world (and you) I hope this post helps you.

What to track to figure out what practices might naturally unfold for you

When starting to look into a seasonal practice I always think reflecting on how you feel each season is the best place to start. I know I feel really aligned with ancestor rituals and tarot during the fall, planning and visioning during the winter, physical rituals (like cleansing/clearing) during the spring, and social magic during the summer. Once I know where my natural baseline is each season, here’s what I’d do to hone in on what rituals might fit in with my own rhythm:

  • 1. Track your days
  • 2. Break down seasons in a way that makes sense to you – typical seasons, zodiac seasons, Sabbats, how weather changes where you live
  • 3. Pick a few things that are important to you to do each season
  • 4. Decorate for the season
  • 5. Plan crafts
  • 6. Plan recipes
  • 7. Change up your routine
  • 8. Change up your spiritual practices
  • 9. Review what you liked and didn’t like from last year

Starter ideas for each season’s spiritual practices

Once I’ve gathered what I’ve reflected on and want my season’s spiritual practice to feel like, then I come up with rituals that will feed that energy and light me up. I don’t do each ritual every day, but I tend to get to them at least once a season. Here’s some ideas for each natural season:

Spring Spiritual Practices

  1. Garden
  2. Spend time outside and notice the rebirth of nature
  3. Cleaning and cleansing practices
  4. Do rituals
  5. Celebrate Ostara and Beltane
  6. Inner Child Work
  7. Learn about new spiritual practices

Summer Spiritual Practices

  1. Celebrate
  2. Take things slowly
  3. Spend time outside and soak in this season
  4. Celebrate Litha and Lammas
  5. Gratitude practices
  6. Forgiveness practices

Fall Spiritual Practices

  1. Go inward and start back up on your daily spiritual practice(s)
  2. Pull cards
  3. Celebrate Mabon and Samhain
  4. Spend time with your spirit guides
  5. Do ancestral magic
  6. Dream work

Winter Spiritual Practices

  1. Vision board
  2. Celebrate Yule and Imbolc
  3. Plan
  4. Do self-care rituals
  5. Shadow Work
  6. Journaling

If you’re hoping to start a seasonal practice, I hope this post gave you some ideas on where toe begin! I’m sending you so much good energy as you allow yourself to play with the feelings of each season!

Embrace your Spiritual Delulu Era https://softspirituality.com/2023/11/04/spiritually-delulu/ Sat, 04 Nov 2023 20:31:00 +0000 The term "delulu" is trending as people embrace a spiritually delusional era, where they open up to all opportunities. Embracing one's inner child and being unapologetically weird in spiritual practices is encouraged. By letting go of restrictions and embracing the unusual, individuals can increase their likelihood of achieving their dreams.

The post Embrace your Spiritual Delulu Era appeared first on Soft Spirituality.

Ok, so ‘delulu’ seems to be trending online – I’ve seen everyone post about it, even the Manifestation Babe talking about being delulu when going after what you want. And to me, there is really no better place to practice being delulu than in your spiritual practice. Honestly, being delulu puts your energetic body into a place of joy and fun, which makes everything so much easier.

What is a Spiritual Delulu Era?

A spiritual delulu era is when you are open to all of the opportunities the universe wants to throw your way. It’s embracing the weirdness that spirituality can be (I mean…tell me you were like wtf the first time someone talked about spirit guides or moon magic to you?) and going all in with your spiritual practices. Let’s make this time, now, a time where we can look back and even if we change paths we can say we went all in and lived to the fullest.

How can you be spiritually delulu?

First, I want you to drop the heavy cloak you’re wearing on yourself and to not take yourself so seriously. This could mean so many things for so many people, but what if you just followed what felt right for you? If it’s believing your manifestations will come true, embrace it. If it’s creating a thriving heart space to hang out with your spirit guides, own it. You don’t have to do everything perfect, you get to change course whenever you want, and you get to play with your spirituality. What if you took away the rules and let your heart to be led?

Embrace your inner child:

  • Play
  • Use your imagination
  • Don’t take things so seriously when it comes to your spiritual practices
  • Create a playground in your heart space
  • Play games with your spirit guides
  • Believe that you have a whole universe full of opportunities and you get to pick from any of them
  • Embrace the little weirdo that you are
    • Believe the thing that you want to believe even if it sounds weird saying it out loud
    • Do the spiritual practice you love but isn’t mainstream
    • Wear all of your witchy outfits and decorate your home like you’re an old forest witch
    • Start that spiritual business that you’re afraid people will judge you for
If you allow yourself to be delusional you’re putting yourself at such a more likelihood of accomplishing your dreams (OR AT LEAST HAVING AN ADVENTURE WHILE YOU TRY) than if you hold yourself back and restrict how you live. Go for it all you little strange weirdo. I believe in you.

Intentional living, slow mornings, easy rituals, flowing rhythms – this is what your ‘soft spirituality’ era will bring you. Instead of feeling the pressure to perform in your spiritual practice in order to “be good enough” I want you to take a deeeeeep breath. Ok. Now do it again and really release everything that’s stuck inside. Good. We are going to rewire how you think about spirituality. It does not have to be a set of rules or rigid routines you HAVE to do during a certain time or you’ll miss out. We’re going to toss that out and focus on creating gentle practices and rhythms within our days that create expansiveness and softness. If this sounds like something that you want in your practice, peep below.

What is Soft Spirituality?

Soft spirituality is a form of spiritual practice of being gentle with yourself, connecting with the universe around us, and living slower. Your spiritual practice does not have to be rigid and strict, it gets to be easy and gentle. If you don’t want to have a practice every day, don’t. If the idea of missing a ritual at the full moon gives you major FOMO, let’s reevaluate why, give yourself grace, and create a rhythm that feels aligned to you and not something that’s full of pressure to perform. Let’s get you tapped into your soft spirituality era and out of your ‘do it all’ spiritual practice era.

Characteristics of Soft Spirituality

Finding Magic in the Mundane

We might think magic can only be found while we’re in the middle of a ritual or when our manifestations manifest – but the truth is that there’s so much more magic available every moment. Soft spirituality is about finding those moments when you can be present and feel the magic of just being. Mundane Magic can be found:

  • From an unexpected funny comment from a co-worker
  • During a daydream while you’re cooking supper
  • Noticing how the light comes through your windows in the morning
  • Realizing the turning of the seasons

If we start leaning into just being we can find so much magic already around us.How to Practice Soft SpiritualityHow you decide to tap into your soft spirituality is 100% up to you. But! Here are some of the frameworks that will help you get started:

Set An Intention

Setting an intention is always a good idea – it helps you put into words what you desire and from that named desire you can take action.

Here are my favorite times to set an intention:

  1. Daily: What do you want to feel today?
  2. New Moon: The new moon naturally starts a new cycle and is a time to refresh and begin again, this is a perfect time to create an intention you can follow for about a month.
  3. Seasonally: Seasonal intentions are my favorite to work with – there is nothing better than wrapping up a season and feeling like you really experienced it. What do you want to do/feel/manifest over 3 months?
  4. Yearly: Do you have a word of the year? Setting a word or a vibe has been something that brings me back to center and helps me remember the purpose I want to align with during the year.

Align with Natural Rhythms

There are natural rhythms all around us and what I love so much about using rhythms to practice soft spirituality is that they’re doing most of the work, I’m just choosing to align with them and go with their flow.

  1. Daily Rituals: Establish daily rituals, whether it’s lighting a candle, saying a mantra, or engaging in a brief meditation. Consistency can deepen your connection to your spiritual practice.
  2. Lunar Cycle: New Moon (intention set and rest), Waxing Moon (take action), Full Moon (celebrate and connect), Waning Moon (reflect and release). Within just one lunar cycle we hit all of the major themes we need in order to create forward movement and change in our lives.
  3. Menstrual Cycle: The menstrual cycle is exactly the same as the lunar, except it’s unique to your body. New Moon = mensuration; waxing = follicular; Full Moon = ovulation; Waning Moon = luteal.
  4. Zodiac Season: Each zodiac season provides us different archetypes to connect with. Have you ever realized that you might be more into organizing and taking your health seriously during Virgo season, but you might be into all things spooky and mysterious during Scorpio season? Tapping into each zodiac season gives you a place to express all archetypes and create a flow (it’s also super helpful for HUGE projects)
  5. Wheel of the Year Sabbats OR Seasons: Ahhh, I love following the seasons of the year. The wheel of the year provides us with 8 seasons (Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lammas, Mabon, and Samhain), but whether you follow the wheel of the year or the typical seasons the seasonal changes remind us to follow nature’s lead and create space for growth, celebration, harvest, and rest.

Connection:

You don’t have to be in your soft spirituality era alone. Life would be hard without connection – connection, I think, is one of the most magical places. And if you’re an introvert, fear not – connection isn’t only found in crowded space.

  1. With nature: Go outside, feel the grass, listen to the life around you, notice the changing seasons
  2. With your loved ones: Creating simple moments and memories with them will give you so much magic
  3. With spirit: Connect with your spirit guides, passed ancestors, guardians
  4. With other humans: And if you’re feeling up to it, magic is waiting to be created with people you haven’t even met yet. If it weren’t for me stepping out of my comfort zone a little bit, I would have never met the people I was meant to in order to open my mind to spirituality and change my life.

I hope this post helped you and inspired you to start a new way of thinking about your spiritual practices. If you have any questions or want to chat, come find me on instagram or email me and I’d love to chat with you!
